a little studio tour.
I live in a little two bedroom house on the Fife coast. It’s small and wonky and more than a bit overgrown, but it’s home and I love it.
One corner of our spare room is my husband’s music studio, one corner is my jewellery studio (wonder what chaos would ensue if we swapped?) and there’s a sofa bed squeezed in the middle for when friends stay. It’s definitely cosy!
The room gets a lot of sun in the morning (when it’s not foggy or overcast - the peril of living at the point where the Forth meets the North Sea!) so this is the time when I like to sit at my desk and make jewellery. I have a good lamp for the long dark wintry mornings, but it’s just not the same as bright, welcoming sunlight.
On the shelves above my desk I keep empty gü pots filled with bits and pieces that I’m working on, samples or parts I’ve accidentally over-ordered, or slightly damaged pieces I can hold back for a sample sale at some point. At the side of my desk I have my trusty label printer and drawers filled with stationery and jewellery components.
I’ve always had more books than sense. After I finished uni, I sold most of my course books (rip precious Aris & Phillips and Cambridge Greek & Latin Classics and BCPs, I miss you) and split the rest between the attics of various family members. I think I’ve just about brought them all back together again, and I’m slowly rebuilding my Classics collection - as you can see, I’m almost running out of room again!
My studio bookshelves also hold my WIPs - the jewellery in various stages of assembly - and finished pieces ready to be posted to you, my gorgeous customers. I keep boring things like packaging supplies on lower shelves because, let’s face it, they’re just not as pretty to look at.
And talking of pretty things: also above my desk sits my slowly growing Classics-themed art collection! I adore these prints, the Panathenaic Amphora by Aster & Selene and Swift-footed Achilles by Adria Antiquity. If anyone has recommendations for similar artworks, do let me know!
