Violet brooch

£20.00

A shimmering purple violet brooch - Sappho’s favourite flower!

Purple and mauve marbled acrylic with hand-painted details. Made with a tie pin and clutch closure for ease of use - no fiddly brooch backs. We recommend wearing on thick fabric, such as a woolly jumper or your favourite coat.

Please note: due to the nature of the marbled materials used, colours may vary slightly from those pictured. This makes each piece completely unique!

Handmade in Scotland as part of the Sappho’s Garden collection, inspired by the fruits and flowers that Sappho describes in her poetry.

In Ancient Greece, violets were associated with Aphrodite and Apollo, and the poet Pindar called Athens ‘violet-crowned’. Mentions of violets and other purple-coloured flowers recur often in Sappho’s poetry; they have become a symbol of queer and sapphic love for generations.
